Yes, I have my love story: Sammir

It may come as a surprise to many that Sammir Dattani is a part of I Hate Luv Storys (IHLS). After all, the promos are all about Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor. “If we show too much of every cast member, it might give away the whole plot,” reasons Sammir.
About his role in the film, he says, “It’s an interesting character, the sort of guy every girl would like to take home to meet her parents.In fact, it’s the polar opposite of the protagonist’s nature. My character is someone who believes in love.” And no, he won’t be romancing Bruna Abdullah in this fun film. “I’m Sonam Kapoor’s man,” he reveals.
Are there girls wanting to take him home in real life? “Real life love stories aren’t as dramatic nor as picture perfect as those on screen,” he says. And when we prod him further, he says, “Yes, I too have a love story and will tell the world at the right time.”
Apparently, IHLS is loaded with references to several romantic flicks by Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra. “It has references to a lot of love stories. We’ve all grown up watching them, and we love romances. It’s a homage to all the love stories around the world,” Sammir says.
And what’s with the way the title, I Hate Luv Storys, is spelt? “We live in the SMS world,” says Sammir, adding, “We realised the unit was bad with spellings and that’s why some words in the title were spelt wrong,” he laughs.
While he’s gung-ho about his next film, this critically acclaimed actor hasn’t really made big waves in B-town. “I see my career as one unit, not a series of films. I’m living my dream and am having a great time,” he says. And IHLS has been especially enjoyable, he adds. “Working with a young team means everybody’s on the same page. There’s a lot of energy and a lot of fun. And Punit Malhotra, realising his dream of making a film, had the most fun,” Sammir says.
